Welcome to the Pacific Salmon Slam

Thank you for participating in the Pacific Salmon Slam.

The Pacific Salmon Slam is a conservation-focused fishing challenge created to celebrate British Columbia’s recreational anglers, encourage appreciation for wild Pacific salmon, and support projects that contribute to the conservation, restoration, and stewardship of salmon and their habitats.

By participating in the Pacific Salmon Slam, you become part of a community of anglers who share a commitment to responsible fishing, ethical participation, and protecting the future of wild Pacific salmon.

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) establish the rules and conditions that apply to your participation in the Pacific Salmon Slam, including your use of our website, participant platform, digital services, and related programs.

By creating an account, registering for the challenge, submitting catches, or otherwise participating in the Pacific Salmon Slam, you agree to these Terms.

About These Terms

These Terms apply to:

  • The Pacific Salmon Slam website;
  • Participant accounts;
  • Catch submissions;
  • Digital badges and achievements;
  • Challenge completion recognition;
  • Challenge coins;
  • Program communications;
  • Related online and offline activities.

Pacific Salmon Slam reserves the right to update or modify these Terms as the program evolves.

When significant changes are made, we will provide reasonable notice through our website or other communication channels.

Your continued participation after changes are posted means you accept the updated Terms.

Program Purpose and Conservation Mission

The Pacific Salmon Slam exists to celebrate the incredible diversity of Pacific salmon found in British Columbia and to inspire greater participation in salmon conservation.

The challenge encourages anglers to learn about, appreciate, and responsibly pursue all five species of Pacific salmon native to BC waters:

  • Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha)
  • Coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch)
  • Sockeye salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka)
  • Chum salmon (Oncorhynchus keta)
  • Pink salmon (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha)

Through participation, anglers help raise awareness and support conservation initiatives that benefit wild salmon and the ecosystems they depend upon.

Eligibility

Participation in the Pacific Salmon Slam is open to individuals who:

  • Are legally permitted to participate in recreational fishing activities within the applicable jurisdiction;
  • Hold any required fishing licences, permits, stamps, or authorizations;
  • Follow all applicable fishing regulations;
  • Meet the registration requirements established by Pacific Salmon Slam.

Participants are responsible for understanding and following all applicable federal, provincial, territorial, and local fishing regulations.

Participation in the Pacific Salmon Slam does not replace or modify any legal fishing requirements.

Participant Accounts

To participate, you will be required to create an account.

You agree to:

  • Provide accurate and current information;
  • Maintain the security of your account credentials;
  • Use only your own account;
  • Notify Pacific Salmon Slam if you believe your account has been compromised;
  • Accept responsibility for activity conducted through your account.

Accounts created using false information or for the purpose of manipulating the program may be suspended or removed.

The Pacific Salmon Slam Challenge

The Pacific Salmon Slam challenge requires participants to document eligible catches of all five Pacific salmon species recognized by the program.

To complete the challenge, participants must:

  1. Register for the Pacific Salmon Slam;
  2. Submit qualifying catches through the approved submission process;
  3. Provide sufficient information for verification;
  4. Successfully document all required species;
  5. Meet all challenge requirements in effect at the time of participation.

Pacific Salmon Slam reserves the right to update challenge requirements to improve conservation outcomes, participant experience, and program integrity.

Catch Submission Requirements

Participants are responsible for ensuring their submissions are accurate and complete.

A catch submission may require:

  • Species identification;
  • Date of catch;
  • General fishing location;
  • Photograph(s);
  • Additional information if requested for verification.

Participants should provide photographs that clearly demonstrate the species being submitted.

Pacific Salmon Slam may request additional information when necessary to verify a submission.

Species Identification and Verification

Pacific Salmon Slam reserves the right to determine whether a submission meets program requirements.

Verification decisions may consider:

  • Submitted photographs;
  • Participant information;
  • Species characteristics;
  • Applicable regulations;
  • Expert review where required.

While we make reasonable efforts to review submissions fairly and consistently, final verification decisions rest with Pacific Salmon Slam.

A submission may be declined if:

  • Species identification is unclear or incorrect;
  • Required information is missing;
  • The catch does not meet program requirements;
  • The catch was caught out-of-season or in defiance of regulations;
  • The submission appears inconsistent with applicable regulations;
  • The submission cannot reasonably be verified.

Honesty and Integrity

The Pacific Salmon Slam is built on trust, conservation values, and respect for the resource.

Participants agree that all submissions will be:

  • Accurate;
  • Honest;
  • Based on their own fishing experiences;
  • Consistent with applicable regulations.

Submitting false information, altered photographs, fabricated catches, or misleading information undermines the integrity of the program and the broader angling community.

Pacific Salmon Slam may remove participants, reject submissions, or revoke recognition where there is evidence of dishonest participation.

Responsible and Ethical Angling

Participants are expected to practice responsible angling and demonstrate respect for fish, wildlife, habitats, and other members of the angling community.

Participants should:

  • Follow all fishing regulations;
  • Respect catch limits and conservation measures;
  • Handle fish responsibly;
  • Minimize impacts on fish and habitat;
  • Respect private property and public access areas;
  • Follow ethical practices appropriate to the fishery.

The Pacific Salmon Slam recognizes that conservation begins with individual actions and responsible stewardship.

Respect for Fish and Habitat

Wild Pacific salmon are an important part of British Columbia’s natural heritage.

Participants are encouraged to:

  • Learn about salmon biology and conservation challenges;
  • Reduce unnecessary impacts on fish;
  • Protect waterways and habitat;
  • Support responsible fisheries management;
  • Promote stewardship within their communities.

The Pacific Salmon Slam celebrates fishing while recognizing the responsibility anglers have in protecting the resource they enjoy.

Challenge Coins and Recognition

Participants who complete the Pacific Salmon Slam may be eligible to receive a commemorative challenge coin or other recognition item.

Eligibility is subject to:

  • Successful verification of required submissions;
  • Completion of all program requirements;
  • Availability of recognition items;
  • Compliance with these Terms.

Recognition items are intended to celebrate achievement and participation. They are not guaranteed unless all applicable requirements have been met.

Pacific Salmon Slam reserves the right to modify recognition items, designs, availability, or fulfillment processes.

Program Funding and Conservation Commitment

The Pacific Salmon Slam was created to further the meaningful connection between recreational angling participation and salmon conservation.

The majority of net program proceeds are intended to be reinvested into projects that support:

  • Wild Pacific salmon conservation;
  • Habitat restoration;
  • Watershed stewardship;
  • Fisheries education;
  • Salmon research;
  • Community-led conservation initiatives.

Pacific Salmon Slam retains a portion of revenues necessary to administer, operate, maintain, and grow the program.

Funding allocations may change over time as the program develops and operational needs evolve.

Pacific Salmon Slam is committed to transparency and will share information about supported conservation initiatives whenever possible.

Participant Content and Photos

Participants may submit photographs, stories, comments, or other content as part of their participation.

Participants retain ownership of content they submit.

By submitting content, participants grant Pacific Salmon Slam a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, reproduce, display, share, and promote submitted content for purposes related to:

  • Operating the program;
  • Celebrating participant achievements;
  • Promoting salmon conservation;
  • Educating the public;
  • Communicating program impacts.

Where practical, Pacific Salmon Slam will credit participants when sharing submitted content.

Community Participation

The Pacific Salmon Slam community is built on shared respect for:

  • Wild salmon;
  • Fish habitat;
  • Fellow anglers;
  • Indigenous communities and traditional territories;
  • Public waterways;
  • Conservation partners.

Participants agree not to use the platform to:

  • Harass others;
  • Promote illegal activity;
  • Share harmful or misleading information;
  • Encourage unethical fishing practices;
  • Submit inappropriate content.

Additional expectations are outlined in the Pacific Salmon Slam Community Code of Conduct.

Intellectual Property

The Pacific Salmon Slam name, logos, branding, website content, graphics, written materials, digital badges, program designs, educational resources, and related materials are owned by or licensed to Pacific Salmon Slam and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

These materials are provided for personal, non-commercial use in connection with participation in the Pacific Salmon Slam.

You may:

  • View and access website content;
  • Share publicly available Pacific Salmon Slam materials for personal, non-commercial purposes;
  • Share your own achievements and participation experiences.

You may not, without prior written permission from Pacific Salmon Slam:

  • Copy, reproduce, modify, or distribute program materials for commercial purposes;
  • Use Pacific Salmon Slam branding or logos in a way that suggests endorsement or affiliation;
  • Create competing programs using substantially similar branding, materials, or concepts;
  • Remove copyright, trademark, or ownership notices.

Pacific Salmon Slam celebrates community participation and encourages participants to share their achievements. However, protecting the integrity of the program and its conservation mission is important to ensuring its long-term success.

Website Use

You agree to use the Pacific Salmon Slam website and related services responsibly and only for lawful purposes.

You agree not to:

  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the website, accounts, or systems;
  • Introduce malicious software or harmful code;
  • Interfere with website operation;
  • Circumvent security measures;
  • Collect information from other participants without authorization;
  • Impersonate another person or organization;
  • Use the website in a manner that could harm Pacific Salmon Slam, its partners, or participants.

Pacific Salmon Slam reserves the right to restrict access to individuals who misuse the website or violate these Terms.

Website Availability

Pacific Salmon Slam works to maintain a reliable and accessible website; however, we cannot guarantee that the website will always be available, uninterrupted, or free from errors.

Website access may occasionally be affected by:

Participants access third-party websites at their own discretion and should review the applicable terms and privacy policies of those organizations.

Accuracy of Information

Pacific Salmon Slam makes reasonable efforts to provide accurate, current, and useful information.

However, information provided through the program, website, educational resources, or communications may occasionally contain errors, omissions, or outdated information.

Fishing regulations, conservation measures, and management decisions may change over time.

Participants remain responsible for confirming and complying with current applicable regulations and requirements.

Disclaimer Regarding Fishing Activities

Participation in recreational fishing involves inherent risks.

Participants are responsible for making their own decisions regarding:

  • Fishing locations;
  • Weather conditions;
  • Water conditions;
  • Equipment;
  • Personal safety;
  • Compliance with regulations.

Pacific Salmon Slam does not provide fishing instruction, safety supervision, or professional guidance.

Participants should always exercise appropriate caution and follow safe fishing practices.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Pacific Salmon Slam, its directors, officers, employees, volunteers, representatives, partners, and affiliates are not responsible for losses, damages, injuries, expenses, or claims arising from:

  • Participation in recreational fishing activities;
  • Use of the Pacific Salmon Slam website;
  • Participation in the challenge;
  • Reliance on information provided through the program;
  • Technical interruptions;
  • Loss of data;
  • Third-party services;
  • Events outside our reasonable control.

Participation in the Pacific Salmon Slam is voluntary, and participants assume responsibility for their own activities, decisions, and safety.

Nothing in these Terms limits rights or protections that cannot legally be excluded.

Indemnification

By participating in the Pacific Salmon Slam, you agree to protect and hold harmless Pacific Salmon Slam and its representatives from claims, damages, liabilities, expenses, or losses arising from:

  • Your violation of these Terms;
  • Your violation of applicable laws or regulations;
  • Your misuse of the program;
  • Your submitted content;
  • Your participation activities.

Account Suspension and Removal

Pacific Salmon Slam reserves the right to suspend or remove accounts, reject submissions, or restrict participation where we reasonably believe that a participant has:

  • Violated these Terms;
  • Submitted false information;
  • Attempted to manipulate the program;
  • Engaged in abusive behaviour;
  • Compromised program integrity;
  • Violated applicable laws or regulations.

Where appropriate, Pacific Salmon Slam may provide notice and an opportunity to address concerns.

However, certain circumstances may require immediate action to protect the integrity of the program.

Refunds and Purchases

Where participation fees, merchandise, donations, or other purchases are offered through Pacific Salmon Slam, applicable refund terms will be communicated at the time of purchase.

Unless otherwise stated:

  • Digital registrations are not refundable;
  • Merchandise returns may be subject to applicable return conditions;
  • Donations are not refundable once processed.

Pacific Salmon Slam reserves the right to establish specific refund policies for individual products, events, or program offerings.

Program Changes and Cancellation

Pacific Salmon Slam is committed to providing a meaningful and enjoyable conservation experience.

However, we reserve the right to:

  • Modify challenge requirements;
  • Change program features;
  • Update recognition items;
  • Pause or discontinue portions of the program;
  • Suspend operations where necessary.

Where significant changes affect participants, we will make reasonable efforts to provide notice.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the applicable laws of Canada.

Any disputes arising from participation in the Pacific Salmon Slam or use of its services shall be resolved according to the laws applicable in British Columbia.

Participants agree that courts located in British Columbia will have jurisdiction over matters arising from these Terms, unless otherwise required by applicable law.

Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid, unenforceable, or unlawful, that provision will be interpreted or removed to the minimum extent necessary.

The remaining provisions will continue to remain valid and enforceable.

Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with the Pacific Salmon Slam Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy, Community Code of Conduct, and any additional program rules, represent the complete agreement between you and Pacific Salmon Slam regarding participation in the program.
